Hot Summer Ecstasy
Chocolate cake batter still on my tongue,
I rush outside as soon as I hear the clamor
It’s a hot summer day in the city
Fire hydrant busted, water rushing everywhere
No need for swim suits, its time to cool off
Mama keeps calling, take off your shoes!
The sun is bright, the news has spread
From blocks away, they come
It won’t last forever, everybody knows
Nothing to hear but high pitched squeals,
Arms flailing, heads drenched as we jump
No pools around here, this is it, liquid heaven
All too soon, the sirens are blaring
Kids scatter as laughter abates
Flashing lights call a halt to summer ecstasy
As I climb back up the fire escape
Mama yells, have fun? and the oven promises
Chocolate delights
