My name is Susan, Black-Eyed Susan I am called, I am hardy, one real tough fighting flower; I was born in a lovely cottage garden years and years ago, surrounded by so many sweet and beautiful friends. Oh there was Daisy and Iris, Coral Bell, Primrose and Violet. We loved swaying in the sun and we loved the bees and butterflies who visited, but my friends died one after another and I was left all alone. In fact, the cottage is gone now and the garden is gone too; Trains roar past but mostly it is quiet, so, I went deep beneath the dark earth, waiting . . . then, one day I peaked out- and decided to grow. _____________________________ September 2, 2017 Poetry/Personification/'Black-Eyed Susan' Copyright Protected, ID 17-941286-0 All Rights Reserved. From the comments I come to know that you are Constance, not just Broken Wings! A nice poem, Constance. There's a touch of pathos in it, which I like ,too. Good luck to you:) By the way, Constance, I too have an entry for Kim's contest: "Oh, beautiful Rose." Please read it and I would appreciate your comments.

What a perfect poem for the contest, Constance. At first I saw the title and I thought, Did I click on Susan's poems (is she back?) REmember her? She used Black Eye Susan as her AKA. I miss her. If she were here, I bet she would have chosen this flower too!
