Grandfather
Grandfather,
time's not been too kind,
I've been gone many years,
and there's hardly a sign,
that I too, am your son,
born of equal blood,
but too thick to run,
escaping to other countries,
God, father, we're fools...
my Canada, your Ukraine,
I'll tell you the truth:
we have never left.
And now,
as the clock's ticking down,
the stones in your throat,
leave fate only to drown,
and I know Cancer's fain to kill,
but grandpa, I love you,
and your story always will
live forever,
in my words.
