Goodbye

Goodbye words you speak, tears along my cheek The train's sad whistle calling that you must go Oh my breaking heart, now knowing we must part How will my world keep turning when your gone Do we have the right to send young men to fight Far away on another country's sovereign land I want you here, to keep you safe and near To be my safe harbor in this life and time I'm not alone, other loved ones in our home But there will be an emptiness is your place For just this little while, I will try to smile If fate decrees, the last time my face you see

So sad to see a loved one going off to war, Barbara. There was a movie on TV with Betty White. Her loved one had been lost in action during WWII. Each year on the anniversary of the day he departed, she returned to the railroad station where they had said their last goodbyes. Your poem reminded me of that moving film. Love and blessings, Carolyn
