Gone and Forgotten Brotherhood is a word used not enough. Years past a week was set to celebrate. Now are those who shrug and say, “That’s tough.’’ People not like themselves they just berate. In old times the need was to integrate. Once again it is how to stay alive. Innocent folk meet with a deadly fate. For life alone we must so truly strive. Oh how I pray that reason will prevail, and in this battle with due boldness stride. Let not the people render long a wail, endure agony from a ripped divide. Our modern way spurns care for each other, ignoring acts that make us all brothers. 9/14/16 Do you know when it's National Brotherhood Week? Well, it used to be National Brotherhood Week. In 1934, the National Conference for Christians and Jews NCCJ) came up with the idea of celebrating National Brotherhood Week during the third week of February. But it only lasted through the 1980s. Looking back on the political climate since the end of National Brotherhood Week, it seems that we could use a little more brotherhood year round. But for the past 3 decades, we haven't even been able to manage one week.

This poem puts out a good message that all should heed and learn from, Janis. I agree that our society has become more fragmented than ever...and a contentious election year doesn't help! Great poem!
