That vagabond, I see him every day
at the same corner- shabby clothes and sign.
'God Bless' it says in hopes somebody will
extend a dollar to put in his cup.
That vagabond- what lies behind those eyes
that stare with no emotion? Does he have
a family, a friend, a pet, to share
his feelings with? What does he think of me?
Each day I walk on by without a gift.
That vagabond- a stranger in my life-
I wish I knew if his need is sincere
or just a scam to fund a vice or two.
Dear vagabond, I see you every day;
today's a special one for me because
I put five dollars in your cup- and you
at last did smile, as I fulfilled your dream.
