Dedicated to Eve Roper Eve Roper wrote The Alaskan Tree Frog freezes solid in winter. including the stopping of his heart...and when he thaws out in the spring...he wakes up and hops away!
frogs freeze in winter thaws back to life in hot spring...... tadpoles in deep pools

Amazing amphibians. That would be interesting to see but I would be concerned that I might freeze also in that deep cold. I am glad you used a jump start from Eve's work to write this one. Thanks for the visit to my page. Your visits are always inspiring. Sara

Researchers have found that wood frogs spend the winter frozen! This amazing strategy allows wood frogs to become active very early in spring, because the land thaws and warms more quickly than the ice-covered lakes The newly active frogs can mate and lay eggs in small ponds and even in melt water pools that dry up by midsummer. By contrast, frogs that hibernate underwater take longer to become active, so they must breed later. These frogs need permanent water that won’t dry out. Yet wood frogs have evolved ways to freeze solid for up to eight months each year.
