Today's focus will be on the environment,
Particularly the usage of plastic,
Which is seriously to its detriment.
The situation is becoming drastic:
Plastic now dumped at an alarming rate,
Which can be expected to accelerate,
If our heads remain buried in the sand,
Leaving future generations to demand
Why so little real improvement has been made
In stopping the pollution of our land.
The time is fast approaching for experiment,
That must once have seemed fantastic,
In order to counteract the imminent
(According to available statistics),
And apparently inevitable fate,
Abandoned to the mess we helped create.
It is time for our leaders to understand
That serious new policies must be planned,
Laws to be implemented and obeyed,
If given the Prime Minister's command.
If we acknowledge the predicament,
And cease being childishly sarcastic
(Although that may disguise bewilderment),
We may begin to be enthusiastic,
And can then start to anticipate,
So that we no longer hesitate,
But are prepared, in a united stand,
To rise against the scornful and the bland,
And put our indignation on parade,
Uncaring of official reprimand.
We would regard with great astonishment
Any lack of support ecclesiastic,
Denial of the earth's impoverishment
Unworthy of the holy and scholastic,
As the earth continues to deteriorate,
And the oceans begin to suffocate,
The wrath of God must by such things be fanned,
His representatives should be on hand
To back the anti-plastic crusade
And ensure that it is devoutly manned.
Not plastic alone needs discouragement,
The necessity is more elastic,
Paper waste is of equal disparagement,
Tree felling has become decimastic,
The loss is becoming desperate,
As tree products forever inundate,
Houses fast becoming yet more great,
Purchased by those who have sufficient "rand,"
And which require the swing of an axe blade
To raise reality from fairyland.
We cannot now afford to be content,
Or excuse the crisis as dynastic;
Young protectors of the environment
Are not being foolishly bombastic,
They are entitled to be partisan,
With their wishes included in the plan
The energising winds of change shall fan.
