Fades Away

Love is stronger than death love is life's gift He mumbles to himself than suddenly shouts out loud he'll stop and stand and chuckle as if he is proud he sits on his front porch in his mouth an unlit pipe If you dare walk on his lawn he'll yell up a fright His wife checks on him, for her he grins tells her of yesterday as if it happened just then She smiles and squeezes his hand and gently fades away It won't be long and he'll be taken soon into a place he can rest in a safe room With meals and baths and happy pills and he can tell and tell and tell stories of yesterday as he slowly fades away
