Everyones Dead

Before death I stand, inside a hallway of enduring shame not waiting on judgement, for there is none for such crimes, just abandoned forever pondering worthlessness, Everyone’s dead Butchered in narrow streets, along Jerusalem way slaughtered countless men women children, No prisoners taken, mere heretics massacred one and all Our crusade was sanctioned, Everyone’s dead Shame on me, shame on you, giving such an order we came to the holy Sepulchre dripping in blood weeping laughing, giving thanks for our victory, Everyone’s dead Let us kneel before god, we are your champions But god was not here, nor walking amongst us Killers, murderers, interlopers, alone we stood Drenched in the stench of euphoric delusion, Everyone’s dead Raising the cross on the dome of the rock, we rejoiced Oh god! what did we rejoice, our hatred, our love, What is love, sadistic love, crusaders love, for the love of god There is no love, we massacred them all, ....everyone’s dead Take back Jerusalem Urban said You do gods work Urban said Guardians of the peace Urban said My god give me this day Urban said You avert the apocalypse of man We all hailed and cheered his sanitised version Now everyone’s dead. This is an eye-opener, empathetic also. The only ting I would have changed is the title. "Everyone's Dead" seem to be the resounding cry of this piece, but that is just me. It is your poem, so I defer to your judgement. I like the continuity. It reads like a poem.

Free verse is not my strongest Caren, the reason I purposely put Urban in the title was, if some people did not know whom he was, they might google him, out of curiosity, and learn a bit more, thanks again for all your comments always appreciate them, cheers David

Not so much an Urban myth David But 2000+ year's of history resides inside this poem. And oh so many dead And will not stop Till everyone is dead But 1 And no 1 left to kill

Yeah it’s a national disgrace Christopher, I’ve known about it for a long time, but the numbers are mindboggling at least 9000 babies died in their care, and a lot more too come out over the next few weeks

Like the Crusudes Inquisition, Paedophilia and so and so on. I watched in horror and disbelief the apology last week regarding the baby orphanages taken from mothers to sell off or home unmarried girl's who got pregnant. Worst or most inhumane of all was the final indignity suffered by burrying the dead children in a discarded sewer

This one no urban myth Christopher, but your right a lot of history in here, it’s about pope Urban II organizing the first crusade to Jerusalem, when they eventually overran the place, they butchered everyone in the city, anything from 10000 to 70000 is thought to have died in the slaughter without mercy, it’s a terrible history the church likes not to talk about, cheers David
