Esther's Secret

Esther’s Secret Soft murmurings embrace you – A whisper drawn From yesterday And decades slipped away From another place Still vibrant in long ago – Remembers in the chanting The Ancient Living Voice Of mountaintops; A timeless guardian gently guides Your coming and your going Neither slumbering Nor Sleeping With memories Of chosen brutally carried away Or Buried at a wall still wailing – Still searches for the children lost, Secrets lost, charts of treasures hidden Intertwining; Sighing for a way of life Almost forgotten, speaking in enigmas, Echoing in the song of a harp Rustling through foreign willow trees Somehow afraid a mother’s hands Forgets to mark the day of rest With candles and with Psalms; In your dreams it shudders, Knowing the deep chambers In the hearts of cunning men To forever still the guardian hearts Of the Covenant, spoken over chaos’ waters; Welcoming your prayers in sack cloth Bidding you rise early – dress in silk - Then speak your restless secret with urgency Releasing it from prison walls Where you chained it – safe from traitor’s ears – No more the voiceless mute The Ancient Voice speaks courage for you To save the bearers of the Ark -you from a banished life - Eternal vow unbroken When Moriah calls her children home With an ancient voice.

Sam, a beautiful write of the biblical heroine and her fellow people who were threatened with extinction. Loved the references to the hope-filled prayer of Psalm 121, and the line "bearers of the Ark". Congratulations on your win today, my friend! Grace and peace ~ John

I knew you would recognize Ps. 121. When I do a retreat about biblical women - Women of the Word - I equate Esther with Ps. 121 - one of my favorites! Thank you for your congratulations and message! Blessings!

Thank you my friend! In doing one woman portrayals of biblical women they, and their relationship with God, have come alive for me. Esther is an amazing woman and I hope this poem has done justice to her courage, intelligence, beauty and grace. In a way, all of us who write are like Queen Esther. Grace and peace to you today!

Hi Regina! I am so appreciative of your lovely words of compliment! Thank you so much. I too love Esther. She stepped up took a real chance on being banished by the king. I think it is also a beautiful love story - the king loved her so much that he put aside his law - love the fact he bought make-up for her. And she saved her nation. Many blessings to you.
