Soft Shadows
How helplessly I lie
a relic of age and time
staring at these glaring lights
lost in weary, endless nights.
Feverish dreams of
long forgotten years
burn like fire within me
they drag me through
the mire
for I was once admired
I was once desired.
The midnight hour
drones on and on
and now, somehow
I can see the essence
of soft shadows
coming down the hall
yes...I can see them clearly now
drifting softly down the hall
oh sweet comfort
I can see them all!
Tender hands, gentle smiles
soothing voices I recall
faithful figures, mercy mild
their shadows bring me peace
within these weary walls.
Greedily I drink the elixir
of their kindness
a healing, soothing balm
angel shadows bring great calm
banishing the loneliness
that haunts within these walls.
Sweet serenity their shadows bring
as I’m ushered from these halls
I close my eyes and fly away
for I hear heaven’s call.
