Empty Room

An empty room is grumbling, replete with stale time Sorrow comes to tuck you in - the perfect evening crime Emptiness adorns the walls; north, south, east and west A solitary toy performs in spring at your behest Black birds free of cages dangle harmlessly on high And mock their would-be prisons painted bare beneath the sky Reflections in the window, the mirror of despair In shadows where they crawl at night, inhaled through the air The simple frame at rest maintains the entropy in pine Adventure branches into sleep where childhood dreams malign Symbols of your youthful mind that guard you while you sleep And whisper streams of empty promises you could not keep Empty cupboards, empty draws and empty pain inside The beating of an empty heart with pointless, empty pride An empty door, the empty dark shines blinding, empty threat On streams of empty lullabies that smile empty regret 24-Jul-2016
