(I re-posted this one. The first time I tried to do so, the shape of the poem didn't transfer properly.) They sat on the back porch, in crates, destined for market. Grandmother carefully hand-washed & dried each egg. When she had tallied several dozen, they were taken to the store in town, which also passed as gas station & post office. For her, it was a bit more than a trip to sell eggs; it was a time to visit, gossip & perhaps choose a new broom.

Hi Cona, right off the bat, I give this a 7! The shape and imagery are magnificent! I enjoyed this clever, lovely Americana piece! One day, I hope to give this form a try but I am sure it's not as simple or effortless as you make it look:-) Warmest regards. Pandita

Thank you, Pandita. I am glad you enjoyed it. Memories of Grandmother, and helping her with the eggs, flooded over me as I wrote it. I've done several concrete poems, but posting them on poetry soup is not always successful. But my shoe (Don't Walk on Me) and my snake (Sidewinder) did thansfer correctly.
