Dream On

Last night I woke from a strange dream, Such as I have not had before, Though I have had odd dreams galore. It had a most peculiar theme Of characters out of crime books, Staring at me with haughty looks. I must say it was quite extreme, It could have been a real nightmare, And yet I hardly seemed to care. Some nightmares almost make one scream, One lies there shivering with fright, Terrified in the dead of night. This one, though, was a bit off-beam: Poirot* and Wimsey** and the rest Treating me like a nuisance guest. So much for super sleuths supreme - In future I will stick to Morse,*** And poor old Lewis,**** too, of course.
