It is the autumn of our life
When trees shed their covering
And all their souls turn bare.
But we must not be afraid.
For time has come when we too
Must face the reality of our life.
We too must bare our souls, but
Don’t ever be afraid, my love.
What lies ahead for us, I often ask.
Will our winter be cold and apart?
Is it not up to you to answer me now?
Or will you go on waiting till spring comes?
A cold chill has penetrated our souls
We seem to grow apart these days.
Yet you can never leave me quite alone.
You still smile and cuddle so.
For time has come when we too
Must face the reality of our life.
We too must bare our souls, but
Don’t ever be afraid, my love.
Give me a treat and say you do.
Together we can do great things.
But still I see the fear in your eyes
Still I can’t wait until spring arrives.
