Desiderare
Swinging between today and tomorrow
we hang on the rope of yesterday
dangling over the chasm of loneliness
desiring to embrace the positive
force that pulls you up, up until the
place where daydreams are realities
and fantasies can be dates on a cake
offers a vacant seat.
How many make a compromise with life
and say, “I’ll settle here and here be satisfied?”
Or raise their fists and stomp upon the earth
refusing to be simply pacified.
Our greatest gift is getting what we want,
desires judged as wholesome, true and pure.
But hunger is as daylight is to dawn
sufficient with the want of human tears.
