Cold Crystal Emotion

Crystal delight sparkling in the sunlight like frozen jewels casting rainbow colors through the windowed glass held tight in my hand. Perfected shapes of transparent wonder, sweating droplets of life giving liquid, that pool at the base as sweet refreshment, yet, add water and everything changes. Beautiful shapes turn gnarled and distorted. The ice screams as it breaks against the glass leaving scarred surfaces that change slowly from clear to translucent and then opaque. Each minute fissure obscures my vision as I look through to see the truth of me, my essence waiting on the other side, but with each crack, each thin hairline fracture, my sight is dimmed, and I'm left cold and dark, emotionless, uncaring, lost inside. 12-18-16 119 words

The fascinating title drew me in, naturally. I tend to gravitate toward melancholic works. This one starts off so beautiful and ends up cold and full of inexpressible sadness. I love a poem with contrast! "The ice screams as it breaks against the glass" That has to be my favorite line. Your poetry is so meaningful...your words matter! "Each minute fissure obscures my vision as I look through to see the truth of me"...intriguing words too. sorry about all the quotes. Just love this! Always, Laura

Never apologize to me Laura. The reason for posting my poems is to understand how others see them. I appreciate others honest opinions whether positive or negative. I would imagine that my poems are much too dark for the average reader, but that is OK because they are me whether written from experience or fantasy. You are very kind in your comments and I'm happy if you find something that you can relate to in my poems. Thank you.
