Inspired by the poem "Instinctually Disabled" written by F.J. Thomas

Is a mother truly a mother, if, she is truly not a mother? Neglect has a powerful impact, it can brown a rose to wither. Amazingly, some buds blossom and become beautiful flowers. Threesome Poetry Contest Sponsor: Silent One 1/5/2020

that is a most interesting question. And think of this one: Is a woman a mother if she nurtures you and raises you but did not give birth to you? It is not even about biology. oh, and congrats, charles.

Hello Charles … had a friend call in last week and he was very emotional. I knew he had been adopted as a child and after DNA testing found and met his biological mother after 73 years. Your verse although on a different line had a similar impact - thanks Charles - Lindsay

Wow, That is wonderful, Lindsay. What can one say to a mother after 73 years (lol). Also, on a sadder note, I hope you and your family are safe from the fires and smoke, My heart goes out to the people in Australia. My thoughts are with you my friend. Charlie

It's remarkable how some children raised without love seem to find their way to good lives, but others suffer from the neglect. Very insightful lines, all related, Charlie. Best wishes in Silent One's contest! (Hope the weather by you isn't too cold now.) Hugs, Carolyn

Yes, it is, Carolyn. Sadly, we all probably know a few people. Thanks for the good luck! Fortunately the weather has been on the warm side.. thank god. Today here in central Jersey we had our second dusting of snow all year. All this week it should be in the high 40's, I'll take that in a heartbeat. Thanks for your visit Jersey sis. Hugs Always, Charlie

You captured well the notion that not everyone is born with the maternal instincts. Well penned, Charles. Great tribute to children who somehow turn out great in spite of incredible obstacles.

Thank you so much, Line. I guess everyone has their own situations to deal with. Some have it much harder than others. In most cases one needs to surround themselves with love..I suppose. Hugs, Charlie

Having a birth mother in your life does not always mean you have had good mothering. Hopefully, we're blessed with someone who helps to fill those gaps... Nice one, Charlie! Good luck in the contest!

You are absolutely right, H.T. So many mother's as well as fathers really don't know the first thing about parenthood. My heart goes out to their children. Thank you so much for your visit and the Good Luck! Charlie

Being a mother does not always mean of the same flesh, and how very sad when biological motherhood results in an emotionless relationship. The impact of your words is a point well taken, Charlie.

So right you are, Lin. I've had a few mother's in my life of not the same flesh. My mom was always there for me so I am grateful for that. But many a child had not been as fortunate as I. Thank you for your lovely visit :) Wishing you and yours a Healthy and Happy New Year!
