As Evening Seizes Day
now sadly does October wane
as evening seizes day
streetlights - ever earlier
call us home from play
lone mittens of forever lost
never to be found
as their faces slowly shrink
once glowing pumpkins frown
discarded candy wrappers mark
dark trails of monster glee
chocolate faced imposters dream
of things they couldn’t be
gardens stunned by frost’s exhale
bow to season’s end
tuck beneath flannel robes
Oak and Maple blend
above, trees play wooden “Taps”
mourning nests undone
soft rat-a-tat of wooden sticks
played on now hollow drum.
