Another Notch

Assassination in the headlines' glare,
Cold-blooded murder from the air:
America does not see it that way,
"Entirely justified", so it will swear.

President Trump has tweeted a flag,
With which he can underline his brag,
The taunt that "Iran never won a war" -
Mister President, do wear a gag.

General Soleiman taken out,
Felled in the ongoing, high stakes bout,
Euphemistically, the "shadow war"
In which America has so much clout.

When Kennedy was gunned down in Dallas,
That was regarded as evil malice,
The Western world went into mourning,
Labeling the tragedy cruel and crass.

So Iran must have the right to mourn
The death of one Iranian-born,
He is a loss to family and friends,
Though viewed with international scorn.

His death: one more notch on the U.S. belt,
To pair with Ghaddafi's bloody pelt,
Men who were loyal to their own regimes,
For whom compunction is not to be felt.

There is a commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Kill,"
Does that have any currency still?
Come on, all you Christian "True Believers",
Reconcile that irony, if you will.
