And Then
And then I see
The last light fall,
Watch grief set free
All bitter gall.
And then I fell
Into deep sleep,
Saw a brief spell
Of eyes that weep.
And then I woke
To know the truth,
Glimpse as thought spoke
In placid proof.
And then I saw
With certain cheer,
In lovely awe
Kindred souls near.
And then I thought
Of kin on earth,
Blessings I sought
For grief and mirth.
And then I come
In signs that say,
Love is the sum
Of earthly days.
And then I pray
For you each day,
To live fond play
In your kind stay.
