An Honest Poem

An honest poem

I am Tanis
I'm a survivor, an empath, a nurse and a mother
I am a widow, I have no sisters or brothers

I've endured horrific tragedies of people I loved
And lost my way because of the above

I made it through and I'm picking up the pieces
And everyday my zest for life increases

I'm a total loner, I'm attractive and bright
I love music, to draw and to write

I'm forty seven and starting to wrinkle
My kids are teens and starting to pimple

I'm really sad because my dad just died
Between that and menopause, I easily cry

I've been thinking a lot about death
But never once have I been depressed

I'm extremely high strung with a lot of anxiety
I dislike most things about our society

I dye my hair, I think it's probably grey
If I met myself I'd think I was okay
