An Excavation

For good foundations, one must excavate - removing rocks or muck or sediment. Without this process, how can one create a solid base on an impediment? “Build not on sand,” a Holy One once said. (I paraphrase; I think you get the gist.) Remove the dirt and grit inside your head. You cannot have a good life if a tryst with things immoral occupies your time. Some habits too ingrained require a blast to get them out! But even if some crime has weighed you down, this need not have to last. When things must go, imagine them as rocks, and excavate those dreadful stumbling blocks. July 3, 2021 for Edward Ibeh's This Or That, Vol 4 Poetry Contest sorry I keep making typos all the time!!

I like the hope implied by these encouraging words, especially line 12. Your enjambment talents are alive and well, as is your sonnet mastery. Well done, my friend

Andrea, I really like this poem. Good metaphors for routing out negative thinking. We can only do that job for ourselves, with the help of the Holy Spirit. Carol Louise

Stumbling blokes can build up if one allows them to, clear the mind, of anything unkind. Be rid of things that you find are negative, find positivity and be a rock as you so rightly say, and greet a new no stumbling day! Like your approach to this theme/topic. Hoping for a 1st for you, cannot see that it should be anything else! Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

We have lost much of what Our Lord taught us. Build on solid ground. But we never learn. Gappy anniversary. Hugs.

Such good advice, Andrea. I had thoughts of the collapse of the Miami condo building while reading your fine poem. No, it's always a mistake to build on the sand, whether a building or logic.

Liked the way you compared excavation of mind to excavation of rocks. I wish I could write sonnets like this. All the best for contest. Enjoy your weekend
