A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It is similar to the Kyrielle and the Retourne. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fouth line of stanza four. A quatern has eight syllables per line. It does not have to be iambic or follow a set rhyme scheme.

You suddenly erect a wall
the moment I get close to you.
And I'm unable to breech it
no matter what I say or do.

When my heart’s about to explode
you suddenly erect a wall.
And every time I try to phone
you refuse to pick up my call.

Sometimes you start to let me in
then just as quickly shut me out.
You suddenly erect a wall
without saying what it’s about.

Leading me on like a puppy
you must enjoy seeing me crawl.
For when I feel you understand
you suddenly erect a wall.

Great quatern, Emile. I think we can all relate to this, and not just in the romantic sense ... but being closed out by friends or family. It's frustrating enough building up a wall of separation ... but then leaving the person in the dark just adds insult to injury.
