A Town So Still
The day has brought some welcome sunshine.
Though the breeze will not give up its chill.
Ocean waves, in sync, as if it was by design.
The scene is one I treasure, and always will.
But I am aware of a difference, this time of year.
No laughter filters through the sound of the sea.
No barking dogs, or children's screams to hear.
No usual footprints in the sand, surrounding me.
Summer is not far away, but our town is so still.
No vendors getting ready to display their all.
I see no colorful sand buckets to fill.
No signs announcing grand openings, that I recall.
No one is sure what tomorrow will bring.
I simply hope that a new day will dawn
To again hear dancing windchimes sing.
And be free to live life again, once the threat is gone.
