A Tale About Your Death
The Tale of Your Best
On the road to our favorite destination,
blistering Tennessee heat with
sweat pouring down my back-
It should have been us on this vacation,
me and you-
like we used to do.
My heart fills with devastation.
At a truck stop in downtown Nashville,
a teardrop falls
without warning.
A fond memory turned into mourning-
I held my journal and pencil
and remembered your pain,
how you died in vain,
that chilly December morning.
I remember the heat
as I was trying to write
I remember the defeat
of your losing fight-
Another tale about your death
...was born again.
