A Small Death - Like Absence
I die just a little when you are not here,
Quite silly, in fact, I can feel that you're near,
As sure as I can be, (where you lay is cold),
Reminders surround me that we're growing old.
Sleep's not like it once was, not that long ago,
Extremities ache some, head's garland is snow,
Our appetite's smaller, at times need a nap,
Oh, God bless the days when my head finds your lap!
If bloom's off the rose, I've found poetry now,
And I swear my heart blossoms, each time you say, "Wow!"
I am blessed to have touched you like no man before,
And I even find peace in your cute little snore!
One day all love leaves love, for some no goodbye,
Disaster can happen, but each dawn I'll try
To serve though I flicker, a light that God sees,
Bring light Lord, to absence; I'm down on my knees.
