Star- like, fiery symmetry, strong suggestion of a flower but a betrayal of beauty suspended on a flesh- pink, chrichoid stalk, A manifest illusion of blood and mud Brilliant, strange- compels the questions. What silent signal from the dark ether opened the vile smelling blossom? Was it borne forth from dormant spores, its genesis sprung from hidden fungal roots? A vision encountered by chance A shocked foot held suspended over this wonder, now transposed to a flower in nightmare dreams. 3/28/2016

Love this. Does it refer to that huge smelly flower that only blooms every few years? Anyway the poem rocks!

Yes. Very smelly. I think it attracts insects to consume. The image had disappeared so I uploaded it again. Thanks for the kudos. SuZ

Hi Connie: No this was taken in a cave in Australa by a journalist who was in my Nobby's Beach Poetry Circle on the Gold Coast. He shared it and invited us all to write a poem but I only got around to it lately. Funny how inspiration can hit years after the fact. Lol

It really is a gross looking plant, and you brought it out so well --- "betrayal of beauty" "flesh-pink" "blood and mud" ... sometimes we find surprising beauty in the unexpected ... and other times (like here) we find something putrid, in what is expected to be pretty. Not sure what to think of this mucous-like flower --- would be a bit afraid to touch it, to tell you the truth!
