Recipe

RECIPE Tiny, glowing, hot in its skyward climb, it warms the creatures like morning baked bread, grows high, dies low, is part of cosmic time. Flowing, agile, glistening droplets spread, wet with life, liquid mirror in one song, splashing high, vast enough to fill a bay. Light, sailing, lifting lungs it becomes strong, into sea, in sky, a blue holiday, thin envelope keeps oxygen inside. Crusty, thick, ore and fine silica cools, forms a dirt shell for its earthly fast ride, botanical in sticky molecules. Hot flame, wet rain, deep breath in bold granite, elixir, concoction... rarest planet. -Edlynn Nau (Original draft date: September 3, 2018)

Ha ha ha! I just imagined our creator taking a pinch of water, a dash of air, a cup of soil, all warmed with flame. I had a great time writing it.

Edlynn, I love this tribute to the planet we all call home. To describe it in kitchen terms and title it "Recipe" is just so creative. But your words and phrases are SO engaging: liquid mirror, blue holiday, fine silica, bold granite, elixir, concoction; all are such elegant descriptions. And I love your exact rhymes. Please keep writing sonnets! Hugs, John

Thank you so much John. I will think about writing more Sonnets. I only started because they are so short and I thought I could write more while caring for my dad! Sonnets are like a mathematical equation and I love puzzling them out! I will consider doing more. I’m in NY for the holiday but when I return, I will be stopping in to read some of your poetry! :-)

Oh my goodness! You’re the first one that gets this! You have made my evening. Thank you so much for giving it a turn. We DO have the most incredible planet. I wondered if I could describe it in terms of Fire, Water, Air, a d Earth & set it to sonnet! So pleased you found it!
