July's Evening
With watchful eyes, I follow July’s evening
Spread its blended palette
Of cerulean tints, of lavish varnish;
That I enter into a mystery unfolding
Before me—oh an avian carousal
Across a blazing skyscape--
Where jays and nightingales reel
From the warmth of moonlight, afire…
This regalia unseen through July's furnace
Cooling for now
Amid interludes of pewter pewter rain:
Above, birds form a leafy sketch
Through the ever- gushing cobalt of heaven’s glow;
The freshness of dew bathing
My skin, my drizzle of prayers.
