Blood Red Poppies
Blood Red Poppies There's a field far away where the poppies grow wild A sea of blood red drifting in the breeze They swoop and they swell like the mind of a child And the petals that fall rest beneath the trees When their season is over there's a blood red grave It flows on the ground, softly melts away It beckons respect to the soldiers so brave Who fought hard and died so now here they must stay And the poppies will grace that same field ever more Bowing their heads in respect for the dead One can not imagine the horrors of war So the poppies now pray by bowing their head Let's remember the brave who fought hard but then lost The poppies run free in proud memory For those men who fought and then paid at great cost For the right of us all to live and be free So the poppies will pay their respects every year With each blood red petal spilling a tear The hero's who fell by the lance or the spear Shall always remain in our hearts proud and dear Say a prayer in your mind at the turn of each day May the souls of the hero's be at peace And ever more keep their memories today Let them walk with the poppies and may all war cease Jane Shields 03rd November 2016
