A Song of Aging
When I was younger, The birds in the trees, Seemed to have sung for me. Sunlight shone through windows, And tickled my skin, Asking its child to grin. Oh the boy before, Who walked in the woods, Felt something hiding for him. It was lost in the forest, Locked away in a chest, Where treasures were dreams in my rest. Now that I'm older, I've still yet to see, What it should mean to be. Sunlight shines through windows, Taunting my skin, Whose bones have yet to begin. Oh the man I am now, Who walks on pavement, Feels something hiding for him, It's still hidden in the forest, Locked away in a chest, Where a heartbeat's but a test. When I am an elder, I hope that I've seen, What it should mean to be me. Sunlight shone through the windows, Will have told wrinkled skin, Why it should hold on to that grin.
