Getting the Juice
Master Po, I humbly come to inquire of thee; Should I desire fame and fortune, will that be enough to satisfy me Should I taste of all the pleasures of this world that will avail openly ... Some come with cost, some given free ... Will I then become the man I need to be Master Po, I implore you to answer me Life and death hangs in the balance, for today, this blessed temple I now leave Young grasshopper, listen to what the wind say: The journey of life begins empty, and thus you acquire things along the way Some things are good, some things not so All things that are bestowed, you then choose to either keep or let go As for your leaving, I am happy, but saddened also Fetch my flute, and I will beseech the spirit of wisdom to follow you wherever you journey to and fro Master Po, I will do as you bid me to do, I will be honored to hear the song of the flute The fire in the temple is more alive today, let it dance the dance of life as you begin to play For once I leave this hallowed place, I vow to always remember the taste of the temple grape Grapes which burst forth the pure juice: Grapes of divine truth This poem was inspired by my talented poetic friend, Probir Gupta
