The Four Tyrants
I The first tyrant said: I will appeal to them. They will bow to me because they love me. So he sung sweet words in their ears. He tried to alleviate their fears. But the crowds weren’t fooled by his sophistry. II The second tyrant said: I will dominate them. And they will be forced to kiss my feet. And from the bitter cup he made them sip. He crushed them under rod and bull whip. And the crowds made his downfall complete. III The third tyrant said: I will not tell them. Clandestinely, I will carry out each endeavor. And so covertly he handled his bank accounts. He swindled from his people large amounts. But to the crowds he became a debtor. IV The fourth tyrant said: I will change their language. Then surely, to me they will crawl. And there was not a naysayer to make a sound, For not a coherent word could be found. And it was this despot that owned them all.
