The Roman Soldier
The Roman Soldier Within the ranks of the Roman army was a unique soldier He was standing alone for his Lord and Savior All the way to Calvary he held his breath As he beheld the King of Glory He knew there was something special about this man The man whom Romans handed back and forth to the Jews He knew there was something special about this man The man who roamed about spreading his “good news” “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ,” he would say He would walk about performing great signs and miracles Never asking for a single sheckle from those he helped He was a wonderment from the heavens Now he hung there upon the cross As the Roman soldier became faint himself Knowing all the while it was his King Herod who ordered the Hanging of the Messiah to the world As the Roman soldier stood there looking up He saw the criss-crossed wood holding the nails and the flesh of his Savior He then realized the magnanimity of the moment as the sky turned gray The ground split open And a single tear rolled down his face He said with his last gasping breath “I commit myself into your hands oh Father!” Written by Gwendolen Rix 6-21-14
