Break of Dawn
I stir sleepily stretching awake an hour or so before dawn tossing back the covers I get to my feet and stretch Ablutions now done I call the dogs to heel we all pile into my car drive off in the predawn Heading for a great valley tucked sleepily in the woods stream trickling through where we see deer drinking The sky is starting to lighten shadows recede as moonlight slowly fades and the sun starts showing a sleepy face Then bright rays shoot out each one more dazzling as the sun climbs up coating all in sunshine A wondrous glorious sight as it bathes the valley in warm tender hues and its heat floods out I enjoy the first light as my dogs scurry around setting up pheasants with loud squawks In the distance two hares box each other then they are off in large circles then boxing Fighting, sparring for the right to mate the red stag roars soon they will disappear As people come here children will run about shouting, dipping their feet in the stream Smoke lazily curling from the barbecue's charcoal little do they realize what went on before While in their slumber tucked up in warm beds they have missed the secrets of the dawn
