I looked around for an adult under whose care this boy might be; But nowhere could I see anyone accept this boy and me. He was just playing so happily, in the sandbox and on the swing; Singing to himself a little song – I just stood there listening. “Twinkle, twinkle, little star”, in a voice so tiny and sweet; He looked up and gave me a smile when our eyes finally did meet. “Is there anyone here watching you?” I asked the little boy; “Hey Mister, want to play with me, in the sandbox with my toy?” I stepped a little closer, took off my socks and shoes; “Isn’t there anyone nearby here keeping a watch out over you?” “Hey Mister I’m not really here, I’m just the little boy inside your heart; But you can still play in the sandbox, I just wanted to help you get a start.” I looked around in a state of confusion, wondering if I’d lost my sanity; Then I started making a sand castle satisfied there was nobody else around but me. After about a half an hour, I brushed the sand off my suit pants; Put back on my socks and shoes, so happy I could do a dance; My lunch hour was over, back to the office I must go; I heard the little boy say, “Goodbye”, “I’m here every day, don’t you know”.
