A Hopeless Heart
She ran like the wind, scattered like seeds soaring in fields of lavender. She sought joy to rescind, but what was meant to brighten wasn’t meant for her. Fearing all things that I considered to be hopeful, she craved the goodness she thought I wore on my sleeves with patches to cover up the burn holes. I wear scars, though they are gruesome- She wore scars, though they were so beautiful; more lovely than the cool Autumn sun longing for a tangerine sunset at eventide. Running while hiding and laughing while crying- seeking only the shades of ebony that suit sorrow. For she was my brilliant aria of stardust, and I was her red-hot Aries; a ram fearing not my crimson fiery passion for her recovery. She tasted happiness for a while, but it withered away as if she was torn between two universes. She lived in galaxies of oblivious black holes as I tried to guard her from the truth of her youth. God created a marvel… and it was her. She never saw her empathy as a strength; never realized her pride in the lifestyle she lived. What she experienced was tragic. How she fell into hell was unbearable. I still miss her- remembering how beautiful her scars truly were… to no one else me. She ran like the wind, blistering in sunshine too hot to bear. Her bare flesh was skinned- for death…there’s no way to prepare. *I chose the emotion "hopelessness" June 6, 2019 Going Deep within an Emotion Poetry Contest Sponsor: Sheri Fresonke Harper
