Alone At Christmas
ALONE AT CHRISTMAS Alone at Christmas you will be and different that is true; The one who shared those years with you will now not be with you. You prayed that he would not live long that night not long ago, And that night quickly he was gone from this world here below. So many Christmases you shared with presents that you gave, Now you must carry on with life, continue to be brave. Your health grows poorer every day, and you, too, want to go To that bright land that waits for you and loved ones that you know. You don’t know if you’ll see him there, but if you do I know That all our problems will be gone and we won’t suffer so. We’ll have no Christmases alone to sigh or shed a tear, No sad good-byes in death again, and never any fear. No arguments with unkind words, no thing misunderstand, But love and peace forever more in that eternal land. Sad memories from life on earth will vanish from our heart; They’ll be replaced with happiness right from the very start. Alone at Christmas? Not quite true, for you know Christ is there, And He will strenghthen you with love and offer you His care. So as you face this different time now George is laid to rest, I’m sure you thank the Lord above He did what He knew best. It won’t be long, I’m sure you know, when loneliness is past, And we will dwell with all God’s saints in heaven there at last. --Dedicated to my mother, on her first Christmas after my stepfather’s death.
