The Park Bench At Christmas
Serendipity personified, Christmas time. He sat on the park bench, so regal and fine. Feeling blessed, given a second chance at life. The same Godly-blessing not given to his wife. He felt cherished, loved, revered, understood and more. Had felt her beside him since he left Macy’s store. Elise had always loved his Santa Claus persona. Were the reindeer responding to his new-felt Nirvana? Wisemen. Bethlehem. Jesus, bringing inner peace. He felt her spirit beside him, his own sweet Elise. A glimmer of hope she might leave heaven tonight. He felt a whisper of an angel’s breath to his right. Sorry, my hero darling, he heard her speak in his mind. You have to stay longer, because it is not your time. The snow held a sparkle he had not noticed before. It was dazzling, crystal-magic, snow to adore. Christmas joys, Christmas wishes, shining star in the east. He felt humbled, and reverent, thinking of the Prince of Peace. Exuberant about the visit he had just had Such a magical night, he was no longer sad. Written 11-17-2018 Poetry Contest: The Park Bench at Christmas Sponsor: Sara Kendrick Picture #3
