Be Amazing Be a Poet
Dear New Poet, Don't you just love modern poetry! So free to be ourselves in so many fun forms. Never mind the sonnet or finding a rhyme for bonnet. Just ideas flowing to express what one needs to say. So here be some tips given with love. Take on board that which resonates with you. 1)Find the medium that lets your muse flow most clearly. e.g. pencil and paper, voice recording or the ubiquitous computer. Mine is pen/paper. What comes that way is faster, deeper and a finer quality than other means. Also where your inspiration decides to come. In the bath, upon waking etc: then notepads are useful in those places, so vital lines are not lost. 2)Let go all preconception about what poetry should oughtta be. Write your words from your heart. 3)Express, emote what you know. The worst poems I have read are those trying to be "poetry" 4)Be different, celebrate your difference. 5)If you are young, don't despair that depth of experience, pain and trauma elders have to draw upon. Write genuinely of what matters to you. Life will happen to you eventually, so will pain. Time enough then. Joy,fun, laughter are so important, even more so to share. 6)Do not judge - just let the words out that want out. 7)Poetry is primarily selfish. It is for yourself - should others find it and want it - that is mere icing to your gift. 8)Which means - Let go of outcome. Never let yourself be diminished if your poetry does not get immediate acclaim from others. Ego has no place within a poet! 9)Forms, rhymes, rhythms will all come in time, as you are happy with your words - experimentation will come naturally. 10)Be yourself and have FUN!! For me poetry is a fountain that springs from Universal Source. It delights, enlivens, releases pain and eases hearts. It has brought me through painful times and made sense of my spiritual awakening journey. Favourite themes: Esoteric wisdom, family, love, nature, humour. Favourite reference sources: Thesaurus, dictionary Brief background: I wrote some poetry in high school, found my love of the haiku form there. Mainly found poetry a release for a traumatic restricted life, that needed much healing when I finally escaped. I then went on to help others from my own experiences and the poetry was useful to that end. 10 titles of my poems: Daughter, Summer Hideaway, Ascent, A love to Hold, The Gate of Search, oh go away yesterday, Bryn, Seahorses, Triune, Thank You David Bowie Titles: Releasing Purpose.
