Poem
I'm sitting in the darkness Waiting for the light The darkness tries to drag me in I know you're coming, so I fight. Why aren't you here yet? What's taking you so long? Why can't you come and save me I don't know if I can stay strong. The dark voices call to me Beckoning me near I look desperately around It's YOUR voice I want to hear. I know you'll come to get me You'll pull me through this despair And suddenly I see your face You came to save me- you're here. You sit beside me on the floor Your face looks really grave And instead of feeling reassured Suddenly I am afraid. You reach out to touch my hand But your eyes are cold and far All I want is for you to hold me Tell me I'll forever be in your heart. Instead you look straight in my eyes With a smile that somehow seems false And say the words that break my heart "I'm sorry- I met someone else." I break away, I trusted you You were my only hope I have no strength now to fight the darkness No one left to help me cope. I fall into the darkness Without really a care And as I raise the gun I wonder Who will find me here? Will it be my mother? I picture her shocked surprise Will it be my father? I watch helplessly as he cries Will it be my friends? I see their tearstained faces Who will come to my funeral? The people I care about, standing, crying in their places. That’s when I realize I don’t want to die And suddenly a ray of light Streaks through my dark sky I had fought the darkness Without any help at all My power was special, something unique Love made the darkness fall. Then he came back to me Asking for my forgiveness He says he doesn’t love that other girl It’s me that he misses He says he needs me beside him Especially at night Because there’s this loveless darkness That only I can help him fight So I teach him the power To get rid of this dark And then he smiles, reaches for my hand And tells me I’ll be forever in his heart.
