I was born in Des Moines, Iowa. During the war Mom and my sister and I lived in Mason City until Dad came home. Then back to Des Moines. Graduated High School at Topeka High in Topeka, Kansas, and then went right to work for Hallmark Cards in the Litho Art Department. This proved to be better than a college education in art. Met and married my husband in Topeka, then moved to Staten Island, NY to take over De Jong's Bakery, the family business. We ended up in Colorado, bought a new bakery and settled down to raise our four kids and a menagerie of critters on a 15 acre homestead. For the most part, these were wonderful and fun filled years. Then I lost my husband of thirty-seven and a half years, January 1, 1998. Happy New Year.... It just hasn't been the same since, and a fair amount of my poetry reflects this transition in my life.

I have always drawn and painted for pleasure, to tell small stories, but I also have always written down my feelings. Sometimes when I couldn't find the words to say them out loud, or when I was filled with joy or frustration, writing set the feelings in order. (I am famous for having the right words to say the next day after the wrong words were already said!)

Locally I am a member of the Greeley Poetry Club, and the Greeley Art Association. These are fun groups and has flowered some good friendships.

I am a watercolorist of wildlife and Americana subjects. If you are interested, here is the link to my website and blog.

The second story is about Daisy

Blog Posted:2/17/2008 10:16:00 PM

Think Adoption First, The canine series. Daisy

Okay! The next story in the dog book is the story about Daisy. She was badly abused by a "default" master. Chained in the back yard, being fed and watered only occasionally. The chain around her neck had grown into her skin. Her new master was a gal who fell in love with her sweet nature. In spite of all she had been through.

This dog, real name Spunky, belongs to my grandson. He had his dog do his "roll over and play dead" routine for the poses of Daisy in a very sorry condition. Her new master is my daughter. Spunky had no problem "posing" for kisses.

Today was a bitter cold windy day to go out, but took in a matinee at our local dinner playhouse theater and watched "The Little Shop of Horrors." What a fun play, and the dinner wasn't too bad. On the way home I stopped at Max'ims Art Gallery and visited with the gallery owner for a while. We go way back and I hadn't seen him for a while. Was good to catch up.

Fresh sheets on the bed, and fellow poets, I am now very ready for bed. Good night, and will see you tomorrow with story three, about Yogi.

Well, Cary Grant got away with it, but ... well ... Love your sence of humor. HA! As for the portrait. Brad Pitt you say? I picture a photo of Brad Pitt with a black marker goatee, glasses and dark hair. Personally, I wouldn't try to change an already handsome face.

Okay ... I think I put the information on the first story. The author is Elaine Marlier. She is the Manager of the PetCo store in Boulder, CO. This is her dream, which, I like to think I'm helping her to realize. And thank you so much for being a fan! As for Joe's portrait, I think I'll need more than luck!! :-D ~J~

Judy, do you write the stories too? Sorry if you already said that and I missed it. Just an inspiring talent you are once again. Very much enjoy these illustrations and the story background that goes with them. And oh yeah, good luck with Joe's portrait! LOL! Love ya Joe. : ) Love, Shar
