Hi folk, my name is Peter Duggan, and I was born in England in March nineteen forty three. I grew up and left school at fourteen

With very limited education, but a sense of adventure, so I met  an Aussie girl [Who is my wife of forty eight years, Vera] and we both came to Oz to live. After three months here I decided to join the army, then went to Vietnam eighteen months later. I was sent home from there ten months later, being considered medically unfit by then. I came home to Oz and worked here and there, and moved here and there, and never could really settle down. I ended up with PTSD, and through counselling, discovered that I could write in rhythm and rhyme very naturally, and that I had heaps to say; so here I am now, doing what I love best. Pleased to meet you all…and all clear from the symptom's of PTSD, it seems I wrote it all away. I am still very happily married, and Have three children and seven grandchildren, and my Rotty Bear. thanks for reading  Peter

Hi there fellow  souper’s, this is the first time I’ve sent a
blog off to this site, but I thought that I might tell you a bit about my lack of understanding, when It comes to poetry. I am embarrassed to say that I have
never read poetry in my life, I have tried, but it mostly goes right over my head. So when I comment on your stuff the most I can say is if I like the feel
of it, a lot of the time I just don’t understand what you are writing about. I write because my stuff just comes out, and it has done since I was a kid, and I
always called it writing verse or lyrics. Poetry to me goes much deeper than that. I admire the Woody Guthrie’s of this world, and I have been influenced by
them. I love being on this site, but I must be honest about myself. I never get too involved with people on the site, because once I got into a heap of
trouble, and hurt my wife very badly, whilst in the poetry groups, it was a long while ago, but it still gives her a lot of anxiety when I am on these sites. I don’t blame her, and I always abide by her wishes, because I never
want to see her hurt again. I hope that You have gained some kind of an understanding of who I am in this story. Thanks for reading guys, and I truly appreciate all
the lovely comments you have written on my all too many poems. I just can’t help myself, I write so many, and never l know which one to send, all my best wishes
to all of you and thank you for having such a beautiful, friendly site....Peter

I was once told that Poetry is just to be read and enjoyed whether you understand it or not..I think each person comes away with something different when they read a poem..I loved the song that Woody Gutherie wrote "This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land"..Woody suffered and died from Huntington's Disease like my grandson..Sad that one gifted as he was died so young from an inherited mental disease..The same will be my grandson's fate if there is not a treatment or cure found soon..Thanks for reading my work..I hope that you can always take away something from what I put in poetic form..Sara

A brave honest write. All as well said as when you put keyboard to poems. Look forward to our ongoing conversations. I have gained two more followers on Twitter today (probably a record for me), most possibly due to your words, thanks.

I had to come check out your page real quick and want to thank you again for reading my poems on some occasions. You know I have read some poetry, studied some, but honestly many times I don't know all the things going on in a particular person's poem. With my poetry, I may be hinting at one thing, knowing the normal reader is reading it more literally and thinks another thing, and it can be shades of both. Poetry is like art, and while some may have a sense of what is fine or not, everyone else also has the right to get their own interpretation and enjoy the poem in their own way. Why I don't explain a lot of my poems. Keep up the work.

Peter....I do enjoy your poetry. Poetry has to be real and from the heart. Poems that strike a chord in someone's heart are usually of this kind. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and for your encouraging comments. They are appreciated....

Writing is such a personal experience, I think that everyone has a style of their own......some we will understand and some we won't. The joy for me comes more from the feeling I get when I read the poem....but like you said.....it is hard to comment, when it doesn't touch you in some personal way. Nice to have you here, Peter.

Hi, Peter, I think I have read some of your poems already but I went just now and checked out the one about Viet Nam vets. I think your kind of poetry is very valued by the general population who are not all "artsy fartsy." I am kind of "in the middle" about poetry. I enjoy simple ones easy to read, especially when they are humorous, and I love elegant poetry too, but I do not like when people use surreal imagery. Those are the poems that go over my head. It is very difficult to comment to poems we don't understand!!

Peter, I have the same difficulties reading most poetry. I get the urge or idea and write out how I feel in a way I understand, as I beleive most poets do. A lot can be lost in interpertation. Thanks for your entry in the captcha contest, It was a lot of fun and hit home very easliy.

good morning Peter, it's nice to know of you. I understand how the mind of a wife works. It's very kind, and wonderful how you put her first. I don't blame you, I once got in a pickle for associating with poets from the soup. I wish I could hang around with poets here :-( I respect my husband. However, I keep all my dear poetry friends near. And smile when they are near. hugs. ~Skat~
