I am a middle school bus driver for the Citrus County School Board here in Florida and I have graduated from Central Florida College with an AA degree in Mass Communications. My writing bio is as follows. I have been writing quite a number of years. I have been published numerous times and I have won several awards for poetry.  My poem “The Room” was the first of my work to be published. The piece was originally written for a college assignment the first time I attended CF and was inspired by the horrific well-publicized Bradley McGee child abuse case. It was published in the Amherst Society’s 1990 poetry annual. In 1993 my poem “Outward Bound,” inspired by my five year old son, won the Editor’s Choice Award for outstanding achievement in poetry in a national contest by the National Library of Poetry. In 1998 my poem “Outward Bound” saw a rebirth when the Pasco-Hernando Community College’s Writers and Artists group published it in “Mobius” their literary publication. I remember being quite petrified at having to give a speech on the piece because they at that time held their events in the early evening and somehow they managed to pack the house that night. In 1999, through another national contest, I won the Famous Poets Society’s Award of Recognition for outstanding achievement in poetry for my poem “Seasonal Changes.” In 2014 the College of Central Florida’s Citrus Campus’s literary group “In the Write Mind” published several pieces of my work in their magazine and it is here that I won the award I am most proud of. My poems “Dear Rosebud,” inspired by my granddaughter and the middle school students I transport to school, and “Love’s Journey,” inspired by older couples that still hold hands, won first place in the Florida College Systems Activities Association Magazine Competition. My extra pride in this award stems from the fact that I won this award for my first college of choice, the College of Central Florida as well as myself. If you like and enjoy reading my work, some of the credit has to go to an English Professor that I met at CF years ago who always inspired me to do my best and never ever settled for anything less. An English Professor that to my irritation used to write on my papers “I know you can do better” and that English Professor, now retired, Judy Davis then Krull is the direct inspiration for my poem “The Teacher.” If you would like to read these works or others I have written, you can find many of them published on poetrysoup.com. You should be able to search by the title of the work or my name up on that site. You will also find many pieces of my written work, including articles, on my new blog site: kimmorisonblog.wordpress.com.

I will be back!

Hello Soupers:

Just dropping in to let you all know that I will be back soon. College math has been keeping busy, so I have not written or posted anything in a good while. I really freaking hate math, but I have to do it to finish getting my A.A. degree. Despite being one of the older students in college, at the ripe old age of fifty-four, I plan to continue my education to become a teacher. My next step is trying to find the shortest path to obtain the education credentials actually necessary to be able to teach.

I do have my own screwy notes, a part of my process as many of you know, on a few ideas that may become poems in the future when I find the time to focus on them. However, I am very happy to announce that the literary group, at the college I attend, called "In The Write Mind" have selected quite a few pieces of my work to be included in their upcoming publications and with that my poems gain entry into a statewide contest. I am very proud to be acknowledged by our literary group and to have my work accepted by them for publication in the book, compilation, they produce.

I hope you all did not forget me because I am still very much a souper and I have sent many to poetrysoup.com. I shall return when I get all this math crap behind me. Hopefully I will have a couple of new pieces to post as well.

Sincerely
Kim Morrison
