ok Becca you have giving me so insight on this subject but what i don't understand is why can't some famous person (becuz alot of famous ppl have sex with porn stars) come and speak out about this? i mean you see Fox News trying to investigate why Obama corrupt or CNN talk about the freaking Jodi Areis case... why can't they investigate the porn industry, cuz its sounds like these women are forced into there own will and are being raped

Becca, I am so glad you wrote both the poem and this blog. Yes, it is a very hard subject to address and I feel you did so in a direct manner which was also quite sensitive and articulate. Actually, you sent me into a bit of a tailspin, because I started to think about how young woman see sex, how they romanticize it, those first encounters, only to be hit with the reality of it all... so you inspired a poem, which I posted called Bait, 1986. The poem is not about porn nor prostitution, but about perception and self-realization. It is rather blatant, intentionally. Anyway, stopped by to say thanks. Hang in there! Some subjects MUST be explored ... I understand :)

My advice is to every person who enjoys watching porn... superimpose the image of your daughter or granddaughter over the woman on the screen... if you wouldn't want the people you care about to do the same thing, then you know it is just wrong...

becca, there's a distinction between the porn industry and street prostitution - in street prostitution the majority of women, probably near on 100%, are drug addicts desperate for their next fix, victims of abuse, living in abject poverty etc. in the porn industry, few of them are doing it out of desperation, they do it because they love the money it generates; I know what I'm talking about and that's all I'm prepared to say publicly...btw I agree with what frank has said below, he's right...

Becca, this is a good thing to blog about. I can understand what you are saying. The porn industry takes a lot of advantage of vulnerable girls. Did I read your poem? I will have to go see it!

well, hmmmmmmmmm, there really is NO SUCH THING as a whore, the whole concept, comes from religion, woman and men both need sex, sexuality is a part of life and there should be no taboos between consenting adults. What is wrong is control, abuse, debasement and objectifying each other. If religion didn't say all sex which is not for procreation was evil, there wouldn't be any perverts. It's like the law, we make criminals by making laws, every bit as much as we stop crime by making laws ..bah! Good people are good because they want to be, bad people are bad because they want to be.

yea porn makes men (especially young men) think women are just sex objects and that sex is just sex without any type of connection but its seems as though it affected my generation way worse than yours cuz these young men out here visioned what ladies are worth threw what they saw as young boys (porn at an early age maybe 11, 12, or 13) its all psychological

The two comments below = proof that gentlemen still exist! :) Becca, I personally loved your poem BECAUSE it is so disturbing - when a poem affects its readers that deeply, you know it is true art.

Becca, I agree and never felt intimidated by any of your poem and agree that hiding and ignoring is the most dangerous approach---Kudos to you Becca.

Um...And I love women but... (Don't want to say something wrong here!) It is a fact that nearly all (American) female prostitutes and porn stars were sexually abused as young girls...Great blog! - Tim
