Life is an infinite continuum, feeding on its own death. Our mortality, real and imagined, lives within. We can always see these truths with a discerning eye. The mirrored images that seem like two, are but one, a parallel universe whose paths cross like a wisp of wind, we are all of one time, like prose and poems written in separate centuries, but of the same struggle. There, always there, truth never hides, except for those who don’t seek it for fear of what they might find. From light to dark we fly in different directions though toward the same destination. What matters is what we do on our flight. Do we see the paths of leaves as they float on the pond, the reflection of the sky beyond, and the trees, who have now shed their leaves but will reflect full in the spring; beneath the leaves, the roots of the lily pads and the stare of a wary carp who looks from his world as we do from ours? We must find time on our journey to read, play a game, or simply sit and wonder at the marvels around us, for death will come in its own time…

Thanks Coach Cyndi

I'd like to give a shout out to Cyndi MacMillan for throwing in her 2 cents which was worth a million in my last contest.  She has a poetic mind and an eye for truly talented writing and one of the few here who have that and don't enter contests except on rare ocassion.  When Cyndi reviews writing it delves far beyond the exterior most of us see and that's why I hope she will continue to be a mentor and companion in the judging process. Within a short time after joining the Soup I envied her talent. I've also asked Charlotte Puddifoot to join in and she agreed and Chris Aechtner said he would join when he can. I think it would be wonderful to have such awesome minds (and I know I'm not being too superlative) helping with the judging!!  This doesn't mean that others would be great but these are poets I respect who don't enter many contests if any. Debbie is certainly welcome when she hasn't entered the contest though one poet alluded that too many cooks could----you know the rest---what say you!!

Craig, per my previous comment: I was interested in how the other judges got to see the poems, etc. Details, details, please. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Hi Roy, I was wondering the same but I tried something and it's easy but you need their email address then you just copy and paste. In my case I had picked my 3rd round winners and asked for comments on ranking without any input from me.

:D Thanks, Chum!!!! I will email you today, after hubby wakes up. I've been on a "rescue mission" for family members which has taken most of my time. I would be happy to review poems for any judges who ask --- in September. I think that the idea is sound, as long as the judge doesn't rely wholly on the "second opinion." Also, I think if the entries are given to another for feedback, then it may be best to mention those intentions in either the contest specifics or in contest updates. Too many cooks... well, I see that point. But a second set of eyes can also show BEAUTY that was missed. How odd that it is assumed a second set of eyes are looking for flaws, not for those hidden gems... :(

Hmmm...jury's out on this one, Craig. I trust you as a sponsor. I always have. So, I join your contests without a doubt. I know I'll get what I deserve. To be honest, I'd probably be a bit reticent to join your contests now if you have so many judges, many of whom go for a type of poetry that isn't ME! I'm not saying it wouldn't be great for others, but I'd think twice before entering now because I don't want to set myself up for failure. I mean, you come to know a sponsor and the type of poetry he/she does and what appeals to him/her. I just wouldn't make the cut here. Just being honest. You do what you got to do. I respect all these sponsors. I do, but we're not on the same page.

Just caught on that you were using multiple judges, Craig. That's great! What is your process?

Sorry Roy, not here that much, but basically it's taking their advice to heart and weighing it with my thoughts, hopefully to reach a more objective conclusion.
