Life is an infinite continuum, feeding on its own death. Our mortality, real and imagined, lives within. We can always see these truths with a discerning eye. The mirrored images that seem like two, are but one, a parallel universe whose paths cross like a wisp of wind, we are all of one time, like prose and poems written in separate centuries, but of the same struggle. There, always there, truth never hides, except for those who don’t seek it for fear of what they might find. From light to dark we fly in different directions though toward the same destination. What matters is what we do on our flight. Do we see the paths of leaves as they float on the pond, the reflection of the sky beyond, and the trees, who have now shed their leaves but will reflect full in the spring; beneath the leaves, the roots of the lily pads and the stare of a wary carp who looks from his world as we do from ours? We must find time on our journey to read, play a game, or simply sit and wonder at the marvels around us, for death will come in its own time…

Just a Couple Thoughts

I am writing this in a train of thought that argues with myself as well.  No matter the decade or century of human existence, we have known in our own hearts if we are sane, what is right and wrong and also what might balance on a fine edge.  We also know our personal levels of social comfort relative to how we present ourselves to others.  Let’s stick to poetry for now because that’s why we are here.  Discussions have swirled about right and wrong and censorship and non censorship and hypocrisy and favoritism forever, so no surprise that some level of chaos would result from the subject blog.  I think and hope that the level of chaos was unsuspected by the author when just a minor rattling of the cage would arouse the usual suspects.  In social environments how much extra audacity do we derive from our anonymity, like here where some don’t even use their real name, and if they do who knows them anyway.  What would we write and present at a reading with a mixture of 200 of us in person. Perhaps we should consider what may be socially awkward in that light.  I don’t think it would be too artistically restrictive to make that consideration to ourselves and consider that we are standing face to face with each other.  Heck, it’s hard enough at events with our own family members, never mind adding another thousand eyes and egos.  Enough said.

:) In one of the classes I was teaching, an article came up about online etiquette. "Flaming".....insulting...is much easier to do when it is in an online conversation. You are right...that anonymity gives one the "freedom" to let loose. You put things in the right perspective, Craig. Good for you. Lovely blog. God bless.

You say "[...] the level of chaos was unsuspected by the author" ... I don't think so. He could have removed his post after seeing what's going on here ... if his intentions were not malicious. Let's try to forget all this stupid incident (and this ... guy too). Have a great day, Craig.
