I have been a member of Poetry soup since 2011.

Though my forte is fiction, verse has always appealed to me. There is nothing like a play of words to rattle the ordinary, to tickle away the dust of stagnation. My favourite form is the contemporary sonnet, but I also enjoy free verse. Also, I love the zen experience of haiku, its seizure of a moment, how it can hold a universe in so few syllables. And I admit to a fondness for the Rondeau.

My life is simple, but busy. I’m a writer and stay at home mother. Days are full.

Currently, I am working on a novel or ... ha ha... should I really say that the novel is working on me? Characters! They have a way of turning a world upside down.

There are some amazing poets on the soup. I am blessed to call many my friends ~~ Cyndi

BRAVE

BY SARA BAREILLES

You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes the shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I wanna see you be brave

I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I wanna see you be brave

Everybody's been there, everybody's been stared down
By the enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
Bow down to the mighty
Don't run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

And since your history of silence
Won't do you any good
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don't you tell them the truth?

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I want to see you be brave

I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I want to see you be brave

I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I just want to see you
I want see you be brave
to see you
I just want to see you
I just want to see you.

If I had to say the things I feel to say all the time..Ow Cyndi..How many times I bite my tongue not to cause trouble,or not to hurt somebody..But everynow and then I do explode like a balloon which.kept getting inflated and was pricked by a needle..and to be honest..Whem I let the steam out I do feel better..in the end..a happier person.: )

Bet, But the people that like you, get you, hon. Spittle, red-eyes weeping, house in disarray and words spoken too quickly. What a wonder to have even one person accept you full measure. I remember (15, I think) wanting so to be one persons friend... and she turned to me, I'll never forget this, she said, 'it isn't your fault I don't like you. You're nice. We just don't fit, like, you know. "LOL..holy crap! I was so upset... I'd tried to fit into her world and she wasn't interested. When we moved, I threw myself into activities... poetry and creative writing... drama... art.... volleyball (oh I sucked) It helped. I will always bite my tongue when another's feeling are hurt. But I will be me

Great quote up there, one which I constantly fight for. Be yourself first, then you can always compromise once in a while for someone who is important to you. No matter wot you do, how, when and why you do it, someone out there is going to be offended by it, wrongly misinterpret it. It is impossible to please everyone, and life is too short to worry all the time, so why not just be true to yourself. And there will always be a baggy-eyed Grimm-Gloommer troll who is proud of his Nazi insignia, waiting, just waiting to pounce and instill values and contempt upon you....to twist, warp, push reality into the little square that they want it to be.

Powerful. Necessary. A blueprint towards personal growth. Fear is the wheelchair, unknowingly we sit in comfortably embracing limited mobility. Let us walk!!!

I have a parenting plan for my daughter. I'm serious. I call it "conscious parenting." I am aware on a daily basis what I hope she will learn, how she will develope. The top five 1) Be yourself 2) Choose kindness whenever you can, but stick up for yourself --and others-- when the need arises 3) Read, learn, explore, live life fully. Taste, breathe, turn cartwheels 4) Never be ashamed of being human. We make mistakes. Apologize and move on. 5) Love wildly. It will hurt when others do not love you back. But the love you dished out will find its way to another door. Hold nothing back. Give your affection freely and without fear. How about you? What do you believe?

:D Hello Papa! I wrote you a sonnet ... take a peek when you can. LOL.. trust me, I do the "mom" the mom look, the mom eyes on the back of my head. We do "consequences" here... she is finally starting to get it. I don't cave, no matter the bared teeth, wails, pleading "You can change your mind, Mama!" I am careful which battle I pick, but I do pick em. LOL.

Cyndi, wonderful, but listen to Papa--(Two daughters and a granddaughter now 13 1/2) Never forget that it is a "parenting plan" not a "friend" plan, because when she is about 13ish your IQ to her will drop below hers and her peers will trump you in many ways and your life's wisdom will be severely challenged--which I hope happens because that means you have a normal daughter BUT!--If you stay a parent you will have more credibility and much more respect. Last, never worry about not being liked by your child, that will handcuff you. Tough love my dear or you will both lose. But yes LOVE!!
